A telegram was received from tho manager of the Now Waitaia mine, Coromandel, on Saturday, stating that 67 tons of oro had been treated for a return of 219 ounces of melted gold. The value is approximately £600. SAXON. [BY TELEGRAPH.— OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Sunday. Tho crosscut at the No. 7 level, in the Saxon mine, is now passing through a good class of whito sandstone country, well interlaced with mineral seams. During tho week a couple of nice-looking quartz loaders havo been passed through from 2in to 4in in thickness, carrying excellent mineral indications, and showing colours of gold. This crosscut is now in a total distance of 49bft from the chamber, and a further 50ft of driving will reach a, point where it is expected to intersect tho No. 1 Cardigan lode. WAIOTAHI. During tho past week tho work of sinking the main shaft in the iota hi mine has been in hand. Tho country iu the bottom is now a firm, blue sandstone. The shaft is now down a total distance of 736 ft from the collar, leaving "a further 200 ft to sink to connect with the rise put up from the 1000 ft level, Work in this mine is now suspended for tho customary fortnight's Christmas holidays, and will bo resumed on January 5. MOANATAIARI. [3Y TELEGRAPH.— CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Sunday. Tho crosscut along the footwall of tho main slide at No. i level in the Moanataiari mine, has now been extended a total distanco of 378 ft northward from the point where the No. 1 Caledonian reef was displaced by the main slide. Tho country in the face is still of a good class. A flow of water is now issuing from tho face, which has the appearance of indicates the proximity of a quartz body of some description. SYLVIA. (by TELEGRAPH.—OWN correspondent.] Thames, Sunday. The low level crosscut in tho Sylvia niino has been continued through the reef formation intersected last week. This is evidently the main reef. Thero is fully 9ft of quartz at this point, which shows the reef to be gaining in size downwards. The last 4ft or sft of quartz passed through on the hangingwall side has shown better values than was obtained from •he, footwall portion, but is still of low grade quality, though it is expected. to. improvo when driven to below where the better values, were obtained on the upper levels. The crosscut is being continued on into th<) hangingw.ill for a few feet, after which it is intended to put up a rise on Tho reef through to the battery level, which will give, a natural ventilation to these workings and do away with the expense of keeping the fan running at the low level. It will also open up direct communication through all the levels of tho mine.
KURANUI. [BY TELEGRAPH.— CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Sunday. Encouraging prospects are still being met with in the Kuranui mine, in the low level crosscut, which is beintr extended hillward for the Tararua Road level. The, crosscut is now in a total distance of 800 ft, and is passing through a good class of sandstone country. Several nice-look-ins; quartz stringers have been passed through during; the last week or two. A steady flow of water is now coming from tho face of the crosscut, and this the manager considers is an indication of a quartz formation of larger size being in the vicinity
