Mb. A. R. Histop left for Wellington by last night's express. Mr. E. A. Craig left Auckland for Wellington last night. Colonel J. T. M. Hayhurst was a passenger by last evening's express for tho South. Mr. J. S. Dickson, M.P. for Parnell, arrived from Wellington by the Main Trunk express on Saturday morning. Mr. C. Hanson, manager of tho Northern Steamship Company, left for Wellington last night. Mr, Hanson will bo absent from Auckland for a few days. Mr. James Robertson, of Auckland, accompanied by his family, has just returned to Auckland, after an absence of about 18 months spent in England on a pleasure trip. Archdeacon and Mrs. Cullwich arrived from Norfolk Island on Saturday by tho Melanosian Mission steamer Southern Cross. They are at present staying with Miss Atkin, at Kohimarama. The Rev. A. J. Greenwood, with his Jft'ife and five, children, was a passenger from Norfolk Island by the Southern Cross on Saturday. They are staying with Archdeacon Calder, whom Mr. Greenwood, i is assisting with tho work of All Saint's parish. The Hon. E. M. B. Fisher, who is at Lyttelton, is the only Minister out of Wellington at present. Ministers in general will be busily engaged in overtaking the arrears of Departmental work for some weeks after the session ends, but some of them may ho absent from Wellington for a time at the holiday period. Tho Prime Minister hopes to be in Auckland for tho New Year. . The Hon. Arthur Stanley, eldest son of Lord Sheffield, who has been appointed to succeed Sir James Fuller as Governor of Victoria, will take with him his own staff of servants. Of medium height, clean shaved and not looking more than 30, the Hon. Arthur Stanley is a vivacious engaging, and pleasant-mannered man, totally devoid of anything in the way of "side." Politically, he is a strong Liberal, with democratic tendencies. He hunts, shoots, and is fond of open-air sports generally. He is untrammelled by any preconceived ideas on colonial questions, and is broadminded and receptive. Mrs. Stanley is a charming and attractive personality, and is well-known as a perfect hostess."
