SHIELD

GRAMMAR SCHOOL V. CHRISTCHURCH HIGH SCHOOL.

The Auckland Grammar School team will leave for Christchurch to-morrow night, in quest of the Heatheotc Williams challengo shield, which was presented in 1903 (or competition amongst the secondary schools of the Dominion. So far the competitions have been limited to the Christchurch High School, the Auckland Grammar School, and Christ's College (Christchurch). The Christchurch High School secured the shield in 1909, defeating each of the other schools, but the Grammar School succeeded in winning it in 1910, and in defending it the following year. Last year, however, Christchurch High School gained an easy victory and took the shield back with them. This .year they have defeated Christ's College, and arc said to be a strong side. The local school, however, has a good team, and ft sterling fight for possession of the shield should result. The Auckland team will consist of Smeeton (captain). . Perry, Worker, Hart, Barker, Hough, McArthur, Arey. Garrard. Woke. Nisbet, and Ryburn, and will be in charge of Mr. Mahon.

A cha lengo for the shield has been received this year from the Napier High School.

DIFFICULTY OVER DATES.

The question of whether an Auckland representative team should travel South this season was discussed at the meeting of "no Auckland Cricket Association last evening. Mr. A. M. Howden stated that from inquiries he had made amongst players, he had found that were the matches of the tour not played during the Christmas and Now Year holidays, it would bo impossible to get a team together , As no reply has yet been received regarding the suggestions made by the association ss to dates for the matches against Canterbury and Wellington, it was decided to notify the Wellington and Canterbury Associations that unless arrangements could be made for the Auckland-Wellington match to be played at Christmas, and the AucklandCanterbury match at New Year, and the Auckland Association notified immediately, the association would reluctantly be compelled to abandon the tour.

AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION.

VISITORS FROM-THE COUNTRY.

THE OLIFF BENEFIT. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Auckland Cricket Association was held last evening. Present: Messrs. R. B. Lusk 'chairman), A. M. Howden, E. C. Bealc, P. White, P. Melville, Carlton Hay. and J. Watts (secretary). The Manukau Association wrote suggesting that a match might be arranged between a representative team from that association and an Auckland junior team, or one of similar strength, during the coming holidays. Members of the committee considered that the idea of arranging matches with country associations was a good one, and the selection of a local team and other arrangements vrore left in the hands of Messrs. Melville. Whelan, and Dinniston. The Whangarei Association intimated that it contemplated sending a team to Auckland about January, and asked for suggestions as to a programme. The matter was left in the hands of th» secretary. It was decided that the AucklandRangatikei Nomads match, to he played at Eden Park on January 2 and 3. should be regarded as a benefit match to C. Oliff, the well-known ex-Parnell player and Auckland representative. Messrs. Beale, Melville, Carlton Hay, Watts, and Dinniston were appointed a. committee to arrange all details for the match. It was resolved that matches in the fourth grade competition should be allotted two Saturdays for the remainder of the season.

FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY. Following arf the fixtures and grounds (or the new round of matches in the Auckland Cricket Association's competitions, to be commenced on Saturday next:— FIRST GRADE.
