OUTBREAKS OF FIRE.

DWELLING DAMAGED.

r|| FURNITURE DESTROYED.

A hue was discovered at about, a-quarter past twelve o'clock this morning in an •empty six-roomed house in Hardinge Street owned by Mr. Charles George, of Victoria Street. Damage to the building was trivial, but a quantity of furniture which was stored in a room at the rear ■of the house was extensively damaged. ; The tenant (Mrs. Kirker) vacated the house yesterday morning, leaving her furniture in a back room, which she locked. During the afternoon workmen were engaged in installing a new stove, and Mr. George's brother visited the house at'. about 7 p.m. to see that everything was -safe. At about .12.15 a.m. the neighbours next door, who were celebrating a "special's" wedding, found 3moke issuing- rom the building, and promptly gave the alarm. The City and Ponsonby Fire Brigades were smartly in attendance, and extinguished ,the fire. -The outbreak apparently originated in the room containing the furniture. The roof and walls of the one room and the ceiling of the hall were damaged by firo and water, and the furniture was practically destroyed. _ The building was insured for £250, and it is believed that there was no insuranceon the furniture.
