early gold diggings.

\ aixf. of Coromandel Gold.—Xinetv seven ounces of gold taken lately from the I'ukewhan Creek were forwarded per Novelty to Sydney on her last trip, and a return lias now been received of the pri-e realised, which was, after assay, £3 17s 6d per ounce. It, would thus seem, as has indeed been all along asserted, that the gold found on the south side of the Coromandel hay is of more value than that found on the Driving Creek, the gold from which has realised less than £3 per ounce. It was from this part, Pukewhau, that Turner and party obtained several hundred pounds t worth of gold before the opening of the " diggings in 1862, and there is very little j doubt but that this portion of Coromandel £ would, had it been as well protected as the Driving Creek, have shown results most, astonishing to those whose little faith in Coromandel as a goldtield has led |f them to pooh pooh what will, we assert, one day be found to be a source of wealth ,;s and prosperity to the province,
