OBITUARY.
» DEATHS OF EARLY SETTLERS. The ranks of the early pioneers -were further thinned yesterday by the death at Palmerston North of Mrs. Burbush, widow of the late Mr. Henry Burbush, of Wellington and Nelson. The deceased was born in Wiltshire in October, 1840, and arrived with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Watte, in Wellington in the ship Arab in September, 1841. Her girlhood was passed on the snores of Port Nicholson, and many interesting stories were related by her of the early days. The severe earthquakes of 1848 and 1854 were distinctly impressed upon her memory,_ her parents' house in Tinakori Road being thrown down on three occasions. Mrs. Burbush was married twice, her first husband being the late Mr. John Reay, and she leaves four sons, two daughters, and a number of grandchildren. Her sons are Messrs. J. W.Reay, of Wanganui E. J. Reay, of Wellington, F. H. Burbush, of Devonport, and E. R. Burbush, of Wellington, and her daughters are Mrs. G. R. Comford, and Miss Burbush, both of Palmerston North. The deceased will be buried in Wellington. Another of the old identities of /Auckland in the person of Mrs. Ryall Burke, died yesterday. She had been in Auckland prior to the Maori war. The deceased was a daughter of Lord Boston, and was born, in Ireland 93 years ago. She was intimately acquainted with the early history of Auckland, which she was able to relate up to the last.
