WEEKLY HALF-HOLIDAY.
•THE BILL IN COMMITTEE. •*- 1 DELAYED FOR A FORTNIGHT. . iBY. TELEGRAPH— CORRESPONDENT] , Wellington, Friday. Consideration of the Auckland Halfholiday Bill has been deferred by the i Labour Bills Committee for a fortnight. ' It is difficult to obtain an indication of what tho ultimate fate of the Bill will be, but the members of the committee are believed not to be in complete accord as , to its provisions. ' THE POLLING AREA. DISCUSSION AT DEVONPORT ( The half-holiday question was the subject of discussion at a meeting of the J Waitemata Chamber of Commerce, held at Devonport on Thursday evening, and pre- | sided over by the president, Mr. R. H. ( Duder. After a prolonged debate the meeting settled down to consideration of the motion to the effect that the Govern- '■ ment should be urged to give a fresh poll >< over the whole combined district affected Iby the half-holiday. Mr. , Henderson 1 moved as an amendment that the Governi ment be urged, if it was intended to have another poll, that the poll be con- ' fined to the districts where a vote had i not already been taken. This, ha cpn- ; tended, was the only constitutional method i of dealing with the position. The will of i the people, when once expressed, should not he interfered with. The amendment was carried by a largo majority, the motion being defeated.
