Ma. R. M. Baird, telegraph engineer,, has returned from an official visit to Hamilton. Dr. H. W. Cleary, Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, has been nominated coadjutor-archbishop of Adelaide. Messrs. A. Harr.'s (Waitemata) and A. E. Glover (Auckland Central) left Wellington yesterday for u week-cud visit to Auckland. Mr. T. Grcsham, who has been in WelI" pi>n in connection with the petition for 'us reinstatement as coroner at Auckland, left for the North by yesterday morning's express. A cablegram from Vienna, dated Sopteriihei 17 says that Mr. Johnston (Tasm.inian Government Statistician) has been o.Voted a memher ot the International Statistical Congress at Vienna, filling one wit of tight vacancies. A cablegram from London, dated SeptoniU'r 17. says that. Colonels . Wallace, tlobhes, Leg;c, Buckley, and Ramaciotti, and Captain Pve, of lh<> Australian forces, h»ve been invited to attend the British Army man'uuvres from the 21st to 26th inst Lieutenant Colonel Powley. the new chief serretary of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, is expected to arrivo in Wellington early in October.
