RUSSIAN BARQUE IN DISTRESS. : With only the stumps of her three masts standing, and her bulwarks damaged, the big Russian baryue Clan Macfarlane was towed to an anchorage in the stream at Auckland yesterday afternoon by the Harbour Beard $ tug Te Awhina. The vessel was sighted by the signalman at Tin Tin early yesterday morning flying signals of distress, and was taken in tow shortly before 11 a.m. She was bound from New Caledonia, to Hamburg with a full cargo of nickel ore, and on the night of August 20 was struck by a heavy sea during rough weather, and practically crippled. The Clan Macfarlane took a cargo of lumber from Pnget Sound to Durban, and from the latter port went to New Caledonia in ballast. She cleared Bouembout (New Caledonia) on' August 14. It is not yet known what otepa will'bo taken in regard .to repairs to the vessel, which will no doubt be very extensive.
