The secretary to the General Post Office, Wellington, wrote with reference to the -'Installation of the'clock in the tower at . the local post office buildings. The Department holds the local body responsible for the lighting and maintenance of the clock. The board unanimously decided to undertake the responsibility of attending to the clock when installed. It was decided to arrange for a fitting opening ceremony, both of .he post office Duiidings and tower. The matter of acquiring property with the view to- widening Alexandra Street, was discussed. Th/j North' Estate, and Messrs, D. Bockett, and J. Middlebrook wrote, giving a quarter chain of their , frontages free of any cost to the board and a, hearty vote of thanks was accorded them. It was decided to approach the , other owners on the matter, and endeavour to have the matter settled. Mr. Young. M.P., wrote, saying that Re would be pleased to bring under the notice of the Prime Minister the board ' 3 application for a grant of £1500 for the purpose of cornpleting the roading of the Crown settlement. „ The regular monthly meeting '• of the . Rangiaohia Road Board was held on Saturday last, there being present Meters. D. Cavanagh (chairman), Geo. McGhie, W. Long, A. H. Storey, and W. H. Mandeno ■'„ (engineer). Messrs. Swarbrick and Swarbrick, solicitors, wrote, advising the board -in- the matter, of compelling propertyowners to tut down trees overshadowing the roads. The members each handed in a list of owners to be dealt with by summons in the event of their failing to com?ly with the notices within two month-, he chairman reported that the Railway Department was now doing "certain improvements at the Ngaroto Station, a3 had been urged by the board. The Valuation" Department notified . the board that the sum of £152 63 lid had been paid into the bank as a subsidy due for rates collected. The chairman was deputed to represent the board at the meeting to bs held in Hamilton in. connection with the Waikato Jubilee. A meeting of the Ngaroto Drainage Board was held on, Saturday last, there being present Messrs. D. Cavanagh (chairman), Geo. Finch, and A. Edwards. The clerk to the Hautupu .Drainage Board wrote with reference to the proposal to abolish drainage boards. It was decided to- support the Hautapu Board in opposing the proposal, and a resolution was passed that the Government be asked net to uphold any proposal to abolish drainage .boards,' as the same satisfaction could not be given to that section of ratepayers who agrre to have their properties rated, for draining benefits, if the control of such matters was taken from a board comprised of settlers whose interests were directly concerned Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., wrote, forwarding a copy of a land Drainage Amendment Bill which he was endeavouring to out through the House.
