DEATH OF A BOARDER.

ALLEGATIONS OF NEGLECT.

AN UNUSUAL CHARGE.

THE NECESSARIES OF LIFE.

An echo of the death of William Stimpaon, who fell down the stairs in the Shamrock Hotel late in June and died early in July, was heard at the Police Court yesterday. The ex-licensee of the hotel, Robert Mitchell, was charged that having the charge of William Stimpson from June £7 to July 4, Stimpson being then a person unable by reason of sickness to withdraw himself from such charge and unable to provide himself with the necessaries of life, did, without lawful excuse, fail to supply him with the necessaries of life, whereby the lifo of Stimpson was endangered. Stimpson was a visitor from Taumarunui, and, according to the statement of Sergeant Dart at the inquest, apparently possessed some means, which, however, did not last long. He stayed at the Shamrock Hotel and apparently had been drinking heavily during the first part of his visit. One day ho fell down a. narrow stairway and received injuries, which resulted in a partial paralysis. Ultimately he had been removed to the hospital wh;re ho died. Detective-Sergeant Hollis, who laid the information, asked that Mitchell should be remanded for a week. To this Mr. F. V. Frazer, S.M., agreed, and allowed bail to tlie accused, himself in one surety of £250, with a further surety for a similar amount.
