The youag man Ralph Crawford, who was shot while deer-stalking at Tauwhare <m Sunday, was received into the Waikatb Hospital tie same evening, and is progressing satisfactorily, his injuries not being as serious as was at first anticipated. When a local King's Counsel was addressing the Supreme Court yesterday he spoke from the second row of beneheifc "As a matter of general practice," observed His Honor Mr, Justice Cooper, "King's Counsel should occupy the front bench."
A miner earned Charles Dare, employed in the Talisman mine, had one of his lefts broken on Saturday (telegraphs our Waihi correspondent). He was at the time engaged in carrying tools up a ladder way from No. 14 level, and his foot missing a rang, he fell backwards, break'ing his leg. During the week ending August 2 coal shipped at Newcastle for places beyond the State totalled 116,478 tons, of which 60,200 tons were loaded for Commonwealth and New Zealand ports and 56,198 tons for foreign ports. For the, corresponding week last year the total was 111,319 tons.
