French Motor Road Race World's Record.— are indebted to the Continental Rubber Company—who have been advised by cablegram—for the official results of the Grand Prix de France road' race, in ■which a world's record for average 6peed was made, no less than 83 miles an hour being averaged for the whole distancetruly a wonderful performance. The test of the race was for average speed and reliability. The first place was secured by Bablct on a Delage car, Guyot on a Deiage being second, Pilette on a Mercedes third, Salzer on a Mercedes fourth, Durak on a Delage fifth, Lautenschiager on a Mercedes sixth, Thomas on a Schneider seventh, and Elskamp on a Mercedes eighth. Every one of the eight cars were shod with Continental tyres truly a unique record. In a motor-car Toad race the success or failure of a car depends upon the tyres standing up to the work. As there is an enormous strain on the tyres of a car travelling at an excessive speed, the result* of this great race demonstrated the absolute superiority of Continental tyres. . Applications " for the position of dairy instructor, Invercargill, at a salary of £260 per annum, will be received by the Public Service Office, Wellington, up till noon on August 23. Further particulars may be seen in the Gazette of August 1, or on application to the Public Service. Office Tenders will be received at the Public Works Office, Wellington, up to Tuesday, September 2, for the erection of additions auxiliary No. 3 to the Auckland Mental Hospital.
