Ant amusing conversation between Mr. Fordham and a West End suffragette (Mrs. Caroline Frances Fagan, of Rutland Court, Kensington! took place recently at the West London, Court, where Mrs. Fagan was summoned for keeping a male servant and a. motor-car without licenses. "If I had the vote I should not be here," she said. Mr. Fordham : And 1 suppose the first thing you would do would be to take mo off the Bench and put yourself in mv place. , Defendant: Oh no; there is no one I should like better to see in your position than yourself. Mr. Fordham : Now, Mrs. Fagan, I must be deaf to that. I don't say I don't like to hear it; but I must'nt listen to it (Laughter.) When fined £10 on each summons defendant said, "Of course, I cannot, -onscientiously pay it." Mr. Fordham : There must be distress then. What day will be most convenient for the officer to call ft" the clock or piece of jewellery-you wis*) to give up? Defendant : The sooner the bettor. Mr. Fordham : Very well, we'll gay Monday. Turning to the chief warrant officer, he added, "Call at Mrs. Fagan's house at twelve o'clock on Monday, and get the piece of jewellery, and you can give her notice when it is to be sold, so that she can buy it back again." Mrs. Fagan smiled her thanks and, with her friends, left the court..
