Higgott was the recipient of a presentation at the Dominion Road Methodist Church, on.Wednesday evening, 'the gift comprised a Morris chair and a handbag and umbrella for Mrs. Higgott. Br. T. H. A. Valintine, InsrvectorGeneral of Hospitals and Chief Health Officer, is expected to arrive in Auckland this morning. He will" proceed, as /soon as possible, to Whangarei and Kiikohe. Mr. Alexander Lucas, a member of the Provincial Parliament of British Columbia, who is travelling in New Zealand in connection with an inquiry into agricultural matters by a Royal Commission, Las arrived in Wellington, after spending (several days in Auckland. Ho in accompanied by Mrs. Lucas. Mr. Henry Midgley, a resident of the Jubilee Institute- for "the Blind, has been successfulin gaining honours in the intermediate division at the recent Trinity College examinations. Mr. Midgley obtained 95 marks out of a maximum of 100, which, considering that he is blind, is regarded as a remarkable performance. Mr. James A. Goodfellow died at hie residence in East Tamaki yesterday morning. The deceased had resided in the district nearly, all his life, and had taken much interest in local affairs, having served for some years as chairman of the East Tamaki Road Board. He was a member of, the Presbyterian Church. During the past 12 months Mr. Goodfellow has been in poor health, and was unable to take any active part in public affairs. He leaves a wife and two daughters. The Bishop of Waiapu {the Rev. A. W. Averill) arrived in Auckland from Napier yesterday morning. During the four days j of his stay in the city he will be fully * engaged- " Last evening, Bishop Avevill j conducted a confirmation service, at St. . Mary's Cathedral. Parnell, and in addition j to other engagements to-day ho will re- ■ ceive candidates for confirmation from \ King's College, at St. Aldan's, Remuera. On Sunday, the bishop will preach in the morning at All Saints', Ponsonby, and in the evening at St. Mary's Cathedral The question of a suitable* presentation to be mads to Captain A. Farquhar was considered at a meeting held in the Druids* Hall, Newton, when those present formed themselves into a committee. Sir. W. Bldmilekl ' was elected chairman, Mr. H. N.
