WHO SHOULD RETIRE?
HOSPITAL BOARD'S DILEMMA.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—K)WN correspondent.] Wangantjt, Wednesday. A rather peculiar , development has occurred in connection with country representation on the Wanganui Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. The Rangitikei County, comprising Marton and Taihape. boroughs, and Mangaweka, Hunterville, and Bulls town districts, is, according to the Department, to have one member less,* and Wanganui Borough one extra.
When the five country members attended the meeting to-day the position was discussed at length, and they were asked by the chairman (Mr. Ritchie) 'to decide among themselves who was going to retire or whether they would leave the matter to the board. The Rangitikei representatives protested, and one of them said they had . been in communication with the Inspector-General of Hospitals, . and were in hopes of getting their member back again. This 'statement was confirmed by a telegram received from the InspectorGeneral. "*
The chairman sympathised with the members concerned, and held "that Rangitikei was not represented as it should be. The Rangitikei members withdrew after Mr. McGregor had again entered his protest against Rangitikei being disfranchised by outside influence. After the reading of the minutes and the passing of accounts the meeting adjourned for a fortnight in the hope that in the meantime the representation might be satisfactorily arranged.
