HEGARTY BEATS BROMWICH.
Jimmy Hegarty,. the New Zealand lightweight champion, added another victory to his already long list on Tuesday night, when he defeated Bromwich at Hastings in three rounds. Bromwich. has of lato been earning a name for himself in Australia. Hegarty appears to be in good trim for his match with Len Porter here on June 3. He will arrive in Auckland on Saturday.
"THE REFORM PARTY." NORTHERN ASSOCIATION'S REPLY. The' secretary of the Northern Boxing Association (Mr. M. Ballin), following on a meeting of the association, sent a reply to the demands for reform submitted by the newly-formed boxing organisation which, has named itself the •' Auckland' Boxers' ana Trainers' Association." With regard to the requests for open membership, representation on the Northern Boxing Association, the removal of a maximum limit for amateur trophies, and assistance out of the association's funds for deserving cases, Mr. Ballin states that these matters can only be dealt with at council meetings, since they have to do with the rules of the New Zealand Council, or the rules of the Northern Association. Ho continues that ■ the question of providing a suitable building, with a gymnasium for classes and tournaments, has already been considered by the New Zealand Council, and is at- present before the local association. < With regard to the nroposal that , a first-class instructor should be imported, Mr. Ballin replies that his association is not at present in a position to do so, but is always willing to give all assistance in its power to local instructors. ■ > .
The association's reply \$ the new body's proposals continues that tne matter of providing boxing scholarships and school championships to encourage juvenile enthusiasts is at present beyond the scope of the association, while the question of a set scale for expenses will come before the next conference. .:.....
With regard to a proposal that a trainer mould always accompany a travelling championship team, the association says that this matter has always been attended to when necessary. - The replies to some of the oher demands of the new organisation are equallv short and to the point. "This is a matter affeoting ,- your own rules and policy." dispenses with a proposal that all amateur and professional boxers in Auckland must join the new association, and the demand that all matches for Auckland boxers should be made through the Boxers' and Trainers' Association elicits the response: "The matter is alreadv dealt with by the rules of the New Zealand Boxing Association."
The Northern Boxing Association's reply embraces all the proposals put forward by the " reform party," and deals with each on its merits. •■■.'■■••■-
