A big fire occurred in Shanghai yesterday '. in connection with which ; there were many i sensational -incidents. ' The outbreak . started in an oil and tallow-warehouse, and , with such highly inflammable fuel to feed , it ■' the" fir© soon assumed 'largo proportions.. Blazing streams of oil poured irom the burning building into * the harbour, and the , British cruiser Newcastle, which was lying at oner of the wharves, narrowly escaped sorioub damage./ . : ". ■"• ■ ■•' . ; ' • Soma men who were in. a launch engaged in fighting the flames a thrilling experience. Their boat became ignited; both for© and aft, and the crew, . to save ' thoir : lives, were compelled to plunge overboard and dive beneath the flaming tallow floating on the surface of the 'water.
