Mr. Court, who was. elected to the chair, congratulated Mr. Parr on having been re-elected unopposed. This fact showed tfee confidence of the public in the Mayor, • i-; and ho was sure that Mr. Parr would • 1 serve the city as well in the future as he V had done in the past. : ,\ • • Having made the usual statutory declart ation. the Mayor referred to the ordinary ' ? practice of the installation ceremony taking place at noon. On this occasion the .'•I" "- festivities in connection the New V 1 "/'Zealand had occupied so much of his time $.1; that the custom had had to be departed r- .from.. So little time, indeed, had he had to himself during the past 10 days that he ; • .' .. proposed to postpone, until week, the { rtmarks it was customary for the new • P\ Mayor to make at his installation, regard- -$ % ing his future policy. • He would then V mention some matters which, he thought, ' might well engage the attention .of the council during the next few months, k;"; Mr. Parr proceeded to congratulate his ' old colleagues re-elected to the council. '0:- He did not know that a stronger proof f- of public confidence could be given. It W showed that the* policy of progressive . ;• development of the city which the council - $ had pursued for the past two years, was • emphatically endorsed by the electors. For the first time in the history - of the IV council the whole of the old members seeking office had been re-elected. The Mavor extended "the right hand of J fellowship and welcome" to the five i new members of the council (Miss Melville, Messrs. H. D- Heather, vlx.H. N. Bagnall. R. S. Briggs, and A. Hall • Skelton). Particularly he wished to felicitate the new lady councillor. (Applause.) : ' . He was sure that'the new members of the council would be an accession, which would mean additional strength and wisdom in their deliberations. Mr. Parr inV vited their cordial assistance and support, and assured them that they would receive every possible help and courtesy from tho. old members of ■ t-hfe council and- himself.^ In conclusion, the Mayor expressed his thanks to the citizens of Auckland for. having done him the honour of re-electing - ~ him to the Mayoral chair, unopposed, for i " his third term. \ - : " I
