" , ■ In his report the detective states that on Tuesday afternoon the employees of ' the firm where Dale worked " were given a -holiday in honour of the arrival of the battleship New Zealand. After vie • ing the arrival of the ship from the Domain Hill, the detective goes on to state, Eale went to see a friend in Stanley Street. The friend, another man, and Dale then had drinks at the Swan Hotel. They left, and after soma time returned and • Had more ' drinks. The three men then proceeded along Beach Road with the intention of seeing Dale to his train. On the way Dale fell to the ground. His . companions picked him up, and they proceeded as far as Short- Street, where Dale tripped against; the cubes of the crossing and fell again, striking his head. He was picked up bleeding from a cut over the eye, and unconscious. One of the men bandaged the wound, and the other rang up for a cab. Both men then accompanied Dale to the hos- ' pital. They gave the porter his name, and upon being told that Dale would - have to remain, both men left. From his. inquiries the detective is satisfied that the affair was a pure accident. Last night it was reported that Dale had ' recovered consciousness, and that his condition showed some improvement.
