STOCKS AND SHARES.
BUSINESS DONE YESTERDAY. Only a small amount of business was done on the Stock Exchange yesterday. No sales were effected in standard stocks. There was constant demand for Bank of New Zealands at £11 6s, National Banks at £5 2s, new issue £5, and South British at 71s 9d, but in each case sellers did not quote. Sellers of Auckland Gas opened at 325, but dropped to 31s 9d, while buyers offered 31s at the first two calls and advanced to 31s 3d at the final. Buyers of Union Steams advanced from Thursday's offer of 42s 9d to 43s 3d, while sellers rose from 43s 6d to 445; the new issue were in demand at 31s, with sellers at 335. In mining lines Talismans were on the market at 39s 3d, while buyers opened at 38s and rose to 38s 9d, sales resulting at 39s "in the room" and "on the floor." The demand for Waihis was steady throughout, the day at 32s 6d; selleis at the first «iiil asked 33s 6d, but/dropped at the final .ill to 32s 9d, while sales resulted at 32s 9d and 32s 6d. Waihi Grand Junction buyers reduced their offer of 16s 6d on Thursday to 16s 2d at the final call yesterday, with sellers at 16s 6d, a penny lt>ss than Thursday's quotation.
