FARMERS' UNION.
MATAMATA BRANCH. , Tub annual meeting of the Matamata branch of the Farmers' Union was held on Saturday evenIng, Mr.. A. A. Bowler presiding. The report showed that the year had been a moat prosperous one, tho finances of tho branch being In a healthy condition, 'The improvement, of the train service on tho Rotorua line had been welcomed by the farmers. The railway authorities had acceded to the request of the branch to place a motor train on the run from MorrinsvLUe to Putaruru, and the service had proved a great boon to the settlers. 'Hie running of this train had made it possible to. greatly Improve the banking facilities at Matamata, Thau, and Putaruru. The recently-established branch of the Farmers' Auction Company had received good support from the farmers, and the staff had had to be doubled to cone with the amount of business. The report concluded with thanks to tho various 'the following offlcera were elected for the ensuing year :-ChQlrman, Mr. A. A. Bowler; vicechairman, Mr. J. McCaw; secretary, Mr. J. W. I Simpson; treasurer, Mr. J. Oranswlek; auditor, Mr E O. Banks; committee, Messrs. J. Pickup, I A Young, B. Gunn, G. J. Duxfleld, , W. Hetherin'gton. and S. Grant.
