A SERIOUS CHARGE.

Charges of criminal assault and of having stolen a watch, and chain valued at £5 ss, the property of Luther Mence, were preferred against Charles Windle, a young married . man, before Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., at the Police Court yesterday. Windle's arrest on the assault charge is a sequel to an incident which occurred in the Edeh Terrace district recently. The accused, who gives hie occupation as being that of- a chemist's assistant, arrived in the Dominion from England some nine months ago. The accused, for whom Mr. R. A. Singer appeared, was remanded until Wednesday. . - :■ ' ■'■
