SHE BREAKFAST RASHER*

I -SHORTAGE OF PIGS. v

ft it reported by the bacon-coring factories I apag business throughout New Zealand "gpt a most acute shortage of pigs suitable jb bai'on curing is at present being expgbaaced. At the beginning of the week p5 grocers were notified of the very,; sub--:tffftiftl advance of 2d per lb on hams and -• bacon. Housewives will undoubtedly look ..with alarm at the increased cost of this most necessary article of diet, particularly , for the breakfast table. She bacon factories, on being questioned $'_ia to the reason of the serious shortage, sUto that large numbers of farmers, have p| taken to rearing calves instead of pigs, ;V these having been found more profitable to the farmer. It is hoped that .the very Shiga price now being offered for pork will /.induce farmers to again go in for pig-rear* '' '.'ing. which would tend to relieve the acute j*: shortage now being experienced.
