LORD A. DOUGLAS BANKRUPT.
!♦ PENDING LIBEL SUIT FOR £2500. At the first meeting of the creditors of Lord Alfred Bruce Douglas in London recently, a resolution was passed adjudging him bankrupt. The receiving order was made upon the petition of J. King, moneylender, a creditor for £174. The chairman said that the debtor had written to the Official Receiver a letter, in which he said he possessed no' assets of any kind. He was dependent upon a voluntary, allowance made to him by his mother, and said that the furniture, plate, linen, etc., at 26, Church Row, Hampstead, was the property of his wife, who had a bill of sale over the house and its contents. Lord Alfred said that his debts were loss than £500. The debtor was returning from Scotland and would at once attend upon the Official Receiver and give him all the information that he required. Ho owed only two or three moneylenders* and tradesmen's debts, which would be discharged by relatives. The Official Receiver said apparently there was a libel action going on, which was said to be down for trial by a special jury. Mr. Cran, who appeared on behalf of the debtor, said a claim was being made for £2500 in respect of a publication contained in a certain book. Lord Alfred's family were supporting him in the action. The moneylenders would not be paid. Mr. King thereupon, through hie proxy, moved that the debtor be adjudged bankrupt. This Was passed, and a trustee was nominated.
