Tne following vessels should be within wireless range of the Wellington station to-night:—-Wim-mera, Marama, Makura, Navua, Talune, Mabeno. Manuka, Moldavia, Star of Ireland, Matatua, Maitai, and Warrimoo. NOTICE TO MARINERS. The Marine Department has received advice from the master of the Oanopus that whilst his vessel was en route from Westport to Lyttelton he passed a large tree, which was floating, with about Bft of stump projecting out of the water. The position was S.E. , i E. off Stephen Island, between Jackson Head and Stephen laland. The master of the "Canopus stated that the objeofr was right in the track of shipping. .. A few weeks ago the baniuentlne Southern Cross, while on a voyage from Hobart to Melbourne, struck a sunken obstruction, presumably a. rock, near Bridport. Fortunately, the vessel only sustained verv alight damage. An obstruction near Deal Island, which did some damage to the Wakatipu a *iew years ajro, waa located afterwards by Captain Clark and the row of the Launceston Marine Board's tug Wybia. Up to the present, however, the board has not been adrwen by the Government to make a search for trie rock struck by the Southern Cross. .: Presumably this work will be undertaken before long, in the interests of the safe navigation of Bus Straits.--
