MINING NEWS.
WAIHI. Titk following cablegram lias been, despatched to tho London office of the Waihi Gold Mining Company : —" No. 10 level: The water is now out of tho country rock-" WATCHMAN. Tho manager of the. Watchman mine, Thames, reports that during the past week work was principally confined to the No. la level, where the men have been engaged in widening and timbering. The leading stope is producing a fair amount, of crushing oro of a good grade. No. 5 rise is up 91ft- At this point (ho reef measures 15ft and is of low grade. NEW SYLVIA. The manager of tho New Sylvia, mine, Thames, reporting for the past week, states that good, progress is being made with the new rise at No. 3 level. The quartz is oft wide and is of fair value. All the stopes aro producing a fair quantity of ore, and in No. 5 stope gold is seen freely, the reef being 10ft wide. NOTES. Crosscutting is being carried on in the Golden Bolt mine, Neavesville, to find the hangingwall of tho Perseverance reef. The drive on the new reef in the Dominion mine, Karangahake, was advanced lift during the past week, making a total of 61ft from the mouth of the tunnel. On tho seaward block at the 400 ft level in the Old Hauraki mine, Coromandel, five stopes aro in progress, and pieces of picked stone arc being obtained.
During the past week the Magazine drive in the Knranui mine, Thames, was extended 6ft through a good class of country. The crosscut going hillward on the Oddfellows' reef was extended 12ft.
In Bremner's Freehold mine, Coromandel, the winze on Tiornan's reef was sunk 3ft during the past week. The reef still continues to be a strong body of quartz 3ft in width, and occasionally colours of gold are seen in tho stono when broken. The drive on Tiernan's reef was extended 4ft. The reef in this face during the past few days has made a decided improvement, and is now up to 12in in width and shows strong dabs of g«ld in the stone.
The main level crosscut in the New Success mine, Coromandel, has been advanced to 249 ft. The countrv in the face is a milder class of rock ana! is breaking much better.
In the Hanraki Reefs mine, Coromandel, stoping is in progress on the north reef, and the quartz broken down shows a little gold. At the main level the Golcond.i reef is showing apparently in three portions, and a good flow of water is issuing from the facg of the drive. _ A little picked stone was obtained during the past week from the drive going east on the old No. 2 level. -In the main stopes a little gold was seen during tho week.
