EXTENDING THE UNION JACK. CANADIAN' EXPEDITION, By Telegraph.— Association.—Copyright 1 Ottawa, February 23. The Canadian Government is financing Professor Stefanson's further explorations in the Arctic • regions. One of the objects will be to raise the British flag over many unexplored islands. Professor Sl«fanson, of the. American Museum of Natural History, returned in September lost from a visit to the Arctic regions. Ho announce*! the discovery of 1000 white people living on Victoria Island, near the mouth of the Mackenzie River. It is believed that the people are the descendants of Ericksen, a Norso chief, who reached Greenland in tin year 1000 A.D. The tribes, who are mostly of Norwegian origin, know nothing of their ancestors.
