PROPOSED NEW TRAFFIC ROAD.
—Re letter from "A.P. in your issue of Thursday, the gradient from the corner of Fort * Street ': to:, St. Andrew's Church, Symonds Street, .will. he heavy and I know some ,of the property-owners will not be inclined to part with their.land' at a low figure. As I have. before pointed out, the route up the gully to .the, east of St. : George's Bay Road, Parnell. - the easiest gradient out of Auckland. ' The distance is 44 chains, rise about 160 ft (1 in 18). Further, it is about 'one _ milenearer Newmarket ';'. from the '.Railway Wharf than via Symonds Street! The most of the property-owners on. this route . would give the land for a 66ffe road, and it would . open up a large area of building land sufficient for about 200 houses. This alone would bring a large revenue in rates, as there is nc doubt, being so near the-, business centre of the. city it . wdnld, be built on in a very short ..after .■ the road was made. * J'is.
