ANNUAL PICNICS.

THE seventh annual picnic of the Auckland Harbour Board employees was held at Pine Island on Saturday. About 1000 persons visited the pretty picnic ground, amongst wlio.n were Messrs. J. H. Gunson (chairman), J. E. Taylor, and C. Barley (members of board). Music was provided by the Newton Brass Band, and a splendid sports programme was held during the day. Tho successful competitors were presented with prizes by Mr. Gunson. The following are the results of the various races: — Employees' Handicap (100 yds): V. Barchard, 1; It. Rao, 2. Board Championship (220 yds): G. Sanderson 1; S. Weston, 2. Employees and Friends (150 yds): W. Byers, 1; E. Madden, 2. Old Men's Race (50yds): V. Vialioux, 1; F. Beadle, 2. Married Men (75yds): W. Seager, 1, J. Bae, 2. Tug-of-War: E. McGee's team Married Ladies (75yds): Mrs. Lewis and Ilrs. Gibson, dead heat, 1. Young Ladies, under 17 (75yds): Annie Stephens, 1; Hilda Linford, 2, Bandsmen's Race (100 yds): Buckley, 1. Epg and Spoon Race, ladies (75yds!: Miss Hurley, 1; L. Linford, 2- Committeemen's Handicap (100 yds!: A. Clare, 1. I' Shields, 2. Employees' Wives' Race (75yds): Mrs. Young, 1; Mrs. Pasqurn, 2. Special Race for Employees' Wives (75yds) Mrs. Mann, 1. Three-legged Race (100 yds): Dowd and Bouvard, 1; Byers and Aubrey, 2. Young Ladies' Three-legged Race (75yds): Nita Turner and Elsie Atty, 1. Hop, Step, and Jump: E Bouvard. The employees of the Auckland Gas Company held their annual picnic at Papakura on Saturday. Despite the unpromising weather, the special train which left at 9.30 a.m. conveyed a lull complement of passengers to tho picnic ground. Here everything passed off very successfully, and a most enjoyable day was spent. A sports programme had been arranged, the entries for which were numerous, and the races were well contested Music was provided during the day by the Ponsonby Boys' Drum and Fife Band. . The employees of Messrs. Turnbull and .jones, Limitelj held their third annual picnic _at Station Bay on Saturday. The chief item in an excellent sports programme was a tug-of-war between office and workshop, which ■was won by the office .after a kepg, contest.
