FREEDOM FROM PESTS.
THE FORTUNATE NORTH.
The freedom of North Auckland from noxious weeds and rabbits has been to it a great asset, but With' th© march of settlement, increased care is being found necessary to combat the inroads of pests (writes our Northern Wairoa correspon- ' dent). From portions of Upper Kaiparare.-' ports are to hand that rabbits are making an unwelcome intrusion, and settlers in. the localities -affected are systematising schemes for their destruction. Thirty years ago in the Kaipara and Tangiteroria districts a _ peculiar breed of rabbits existed. Their numbers seemed never to increase, but a new strain has evidently made its appearance, for the destructive bunny is becoming more in evidence. At this stage there should be little difficulty in combating the pests, and settlers are being enjoined to miss no oportunity of hunting and slaughtering the unwelcome burrowers. ,--
