DECEMBER WEATHER.

WARMER THAN USUAL.

Although the temperatures recorded so far this month have been exceeded in several previous years, they nevertheless constitute a fair summer temperature. From December 1 to December 6 the weather was, if anything, colder than usual for the end of the year, the maximum temperature ranging from 61.5 to 65 degrees. But on December 7 a change set in, and the thermometer jumped to 68 degrees." •

The following table shows the average temperature daily since December 7, together with the temperatures recorded on the corresponding days last year:

•It will be seen from this table that with the exception of ono day, the weather since December 7, 1912, has been much more like summer than during the corresponding period last year. Last year, howI ever, was notorious for its very backward summer.

The temperatures given above are those taken in the shade, in Albert Park, and they will naturally be considerably less than those in the centre of the city, where the temperature is raised by radiation from the asphalt streets, and from the slate, iron, and glass of the roofs and verandahs of buildings. Discussing weather prospects generally, from a farming point of view, Mr. A. Schmitt, the secretary of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, yesterday stated that climatic conditions were now perfect. Farmers were busy gathering in the crops of hap and turnips, and if rain came those operations would be greatly interfered with and the crops affected. A fortnight of fine weather would see everything completed, and any rain that might then come would be beneficial and very welcome.
