Two men and a woman, all arrested for drunkenness, occupied the police cells last evening. .
This Pencairovr Lighthouse school will be closed at the end of this year, as owing to changes in the keepers there will not be sufficient children to instruct.
A' small outbreak of fire occurred in a timber stack at the railway cleaning sheds at about 12.15 this morning. It was discovered by the foreman, and was soon got under control. •
Owing to a spell of dry and hot weather the Invercargill water'supply is proving inadequate, and consumers are being warned not to waste water. An agitation has been commenced to increase the supply.—(Press Association.)
The Labour Journal reports good trade at every part of the Dominion, with the exception of Greymotrth and the West Coast. Comparatively little unemployment appears to exist in airy trade, and unskilled labour is nearly all occupied.
The traffic in Customs-street West was disorganised for about a-quarter of an hour yesterday morning owing to the axle of a butcher's cart breaking off short at the hub. The cart was laden with carcases, which were transferred to a passing express.
On Monday at 9.30 a-m. Mr. C. C. Kettle will hear legal argument in the claim brought by Collins and 1 Storey, land agents, against F. H. Lees for a refund of £40 alleged to have been paid as a deposit on the silo of certain sections at Titirangi.
