NEW YORK'S ENTERTAINMENTS.
SEVENTEEN NEW THEATRES. New York's fame as the greatest entertainment centre in the New World was clinched, when plans providing for the construction of seventeen new theatres next year were fully approved. Its ambition is not only to tread the well-beaten track of the drama, but to encourage the American theatre by every possible- means. Mr. Winth'rop Ames, formerly art director at thee Millionaires' Theatre, is now doing equally good work .on broader lines at New York's Little Theatre, _ _ where there is just enough room for critics and the elite to assemble, and no more. Half a dozen plays are being produced in New York in a week, and just as. many are announced for the following week. As usual, tho Shuberts and Mr. Charles Frohi man. are in the forefront as producers.
