AUSTRALIAN VISITORS.

TWO RECORDS BROKEN.

[OT TELEGRAPH.-PRESS ASSOCIATION.] • Napibb, Friday. A swimming carnival, arranged in connection with the visit of the Australian team, Solomon, Hay, and Riddington, was held in the municipal baths last evening under the most favourable conditions. Solomon swam exceptionally, well. Ho put up two new records for New Zealand. Fifty yards wore covered in 25 l-Ss. (tho previous record being Fordham's 275.), and the 100 yds was traversed in 60 2-55., the- previous, best being Cavill's 61s. and Champion's 63 2-ss. The visitors left by the mail train for Wellington, en route for Ohristchuroh.

NOTES AND COMMENTS. The Waitemata Swimming Club intend holding a carnival in tho Albert-street bath on Friday evening next. The events to be docided are: 50yds, 100 yds, and 440 yds open handicaps, 36yds novice handicap, 50yd3 boys handicap, and 100 yds breast-stroke handicap. s Tho Ponsonby Swimming Club will open the season with a carnival in the new baths at Shelly Beach on tho afternoon of the 25th inst. (Christmas Day). In addition to the usual events, there will bo a number ol: novel competitions, and every effort is to be made by the club to make the carnival a. great success. The 220 yds event will carry a special trophy in tho_ shape of the Odium cup, and special trophies have been donated 'by Mr. R. T. Michaels for the lOOvds race. The programme will be found in the advertising columns, and swimmers are requested to note that entries will be received up till Saturday evening next. Colin Mao Donald (Wellington) and B. Bassett (Wanganui), two very prominent swimmers, are now residents of Auckland, and no doubt they will be seen in action before the season closes. Both Bassett and MaeDonald are good polo players, MacDonald being a member of the Thorndon team which Von the Championship of Wellington in 1910. - It is understood that the Waitemata Club will contest the polo event at the Dominion championships this season.
