ANSWERS TO ON DENTS. Amateuh.—'Training by the watch is interesting; but such is not always reliable. We could not undertake to apswer the question you submit. INQUIRER, Te Aroha.—Major George furnished the winner of the Auckland Cup on four occasions, three t times ■with Nelson, and once with Pepasus. Nelson (by King Cole—My Idea) was bred in Australia. Inquirer, Otorohanga.—A bay gelding named Eruption (by Somnus—Tarawera) raced unsuccessfully in the season of 19051906. In the succeeding season he won a Maiden Hack Plat Handicap at the Eangitikei Eacing Club's Spring Meeting. INTERESTED.— Monoplane is a bay mare, fire years old, by Monoform from the Soult mare Lycia. At three years old she started on 21 occasions, and won four of her engagements, and at four years old she won once out of eight starts. During the present season she won a couple of small races in Now South Wales. WAGER.—La Beina is a light-boned .mare, but she would not be termed a small mare. She stands about 15.1 hands. Some of the horses engaged in the Aucklanq Cup have not come under review in Auckland, and the second portion of your query cannot, at this stage, be satisfactorily answered. Domino, Eoyal Soult, Semolina, and Tiresome are probably below La Beina in height. OLD-TIMER. Hamilton.— initial contest for the Auckland Cup under the present A.B.C. took place at Ellerslie on Boxing day, 1874. There was no contest ffor the Cup in 1875, the raoe having been in that season transferred to New Year's Day, on which day it was 'run in both 1876 and 1877. Only on one other ' oc-' casion in the interval has the race been run on the latter day, which was in 1888. There were thus two Auckland Cups run for in 1877 and 1888. In the first-named year Ariel won on New Year's Day and Lara cn Boxing Day. In 1888 Nelson won on New Year's Day, and Lochiel on the following Boxing Day.
