[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Chrtstcuurch, Friday. At the social tendered by the Christchurch Prohibition League to the Rev. lv. S. Gray last night the Rev. J. Dawson moved : — " That this meeting of Christchurch citizens enters its emphatic protest against the granting of two additional wholesale .licenses bv the Waimarino Licensing Committee, which action we claim is contrary to the law as pet forth in section 5 of the Licensing Act. 1910. We further request the Government to take immediate action in this matter, and if it is .found that these licenses have been illegally granted, that they will take such steps as will uphold the'law and protect the people." In moving the motion Air. Dawson said that additional wholesale licenses were granted' and the intention indicated of granting more. -This, he was sure, was contrary to the spirit of the legislation, and ho doubted whether it were even legal. Ho thought that steps should be taken to prevent such an occurrence. Mr. H. G. Ell. P., seconded the motion.
Mr. J;. M. l'sitt. P., said ho hoped that the Minister for Justice would put his foot down on this transgression of the law, and have the licenses cancelled. More' over, ho hoped that the matter would be dealt with immediately, and not. put off till after the Christmas holidays. The motion was carried unanimously, and it was decided that a copy of it should be eent to the Minister for Justice.
