The JJavua, which is due at Auckland on Mooday evening from Suva, is scheduled to sail from Auckland to Lovuka. Savu Savu, and Suva on Tuesday, December 31, instead of on Wednesday, January 1, us previously advertised. The. barque Northern Chief was towed down from Chelsea yesterday morning to a, berth at the breantwork. ■ She will be floated into the Graving Dock this morning for cleaning and painting. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion liner Arawa, which left Wellington on October 31 for way ports and London, arrived at her destination yesterday. The A. and A. liner. Anglo-Mexican sailed last evening for Wellington, Lyttelton. anDunedin, to discharge, the balance of her New York cargo. From Dunedin the Anglo-Mexican will probably go to Australia to load for Home. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Wakanui, which sailed yesterday afternoon for Southern porta to put out the balance of her Montreal cargo, will return to Auckland about December 31, to load wool and general cargo for London. Captain P. C.. Ross, of the Talune, comes ashore, on .holiday leave.- He leaves for Sydney by the Maheno on Monday, en route for Tasmania. Mr. M.' H. Longroore, chief officer of the Talune, proceeds to Sydney by the Maheno on Monday to join the "K.M.S. Aorangi as chief officer. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Rotorua left Wellington yesterday for London, via Monte Video, Teneriffe,' and Plymouth. She is due at the Home port on January 23. Mr. J. Lowry and Mr. F. K. Allen, second and third officers of the Talune, stand by the vessel during the time she is laid up at Auckland. ■ , Mr. H. P.- Corlett, assistant-purser of the Talune, leaves by the Monowai to-morrow for Wellington for orders. The New Zealand Shipping ,Company's liner Ruapehu is due at Wellington to-morrow evening from London, via Tenerifle, Capetown, and Hobart. ' BY "WIRELESS. '' | The Auckland radio station advised last night that the following steamers arc expected to bo within wireless range to-night:—Rotorua. (Wellington to London), Malieno (Sydney to Auckland), Moeraki (Wellington to Sydney). Manuka (Lyttelton to Dunedin), and Wimmeru (Wellingl- - to Lyttelton). Tho Wellington radio station advised last night that the steamers Ruapehu, Moreaki, Manuka, 'Wimmera, and Rotorua were within wireless range. " THE KUMARA. The New Zealand Shipping Company is advised that tho steamer Kumara arrived at Sydney yesterday from Montreal and Melbourne. The vessel is due at Auckland about December' 23, and after discharging 1400 tons of cargo will proceed to Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin to put out the balance. » ~ ' THIS WEEK'S SYDNEY STEAMER. ► The local office of th© Union Company is advised that the steamer Maheno cleared Sydney at 1 p.m. on. Wednesday for Auckland direct. She has on board 176 saloon and 170 steerage passengers. The Maheno is due here early on Sunday afternoon.'' TALUNE .FROM EASTERN PACIFIC. _ An early arrival at Auckland yesterday morning was the Union Company's sttamer .Talune, from the Cook and Society Islands. The' vessel berthed at the Hobson-street Wharf, where the medical inspection was made. The purser reports that 'he Talune left Auckland on November 19, and made the usual calls at Rarotonga Papeete, Raiatea, • Aitutaki, and Atiu, taking her departure from Rarotonga for Auckland at 7 p.m. on December 5. : Fine weather was experienced throughout the voyage. After discharging her iniit cargo, the Talune will go to an. anchorage in the stream, where she will lay up until January 14, when she leaves for the Cook and Society Islands. • '
CASTLEPOINT LIGHT. Notice is given by the Marine Department that on or about Wednesday, January 1, a secondorder incandescent light will be exhibited from a* white lighthouse on Castlepoint. The light Will be a group flashing light, with three white flashes every 45 seconds. - • The are of visibility will cover, approximately, 180deg, from about N 12aeg. E. (magnetic) to S. 12deg. W. The height of light is 170 ft, and it should be visible for a distance of 19i miles. Charts, etc., affected : Admiralty charts, Nos. 2528' and 1212; New Zealand Pilot, eighth edition, 1908, Chapter IV., page 137. THE CRAIG LINE.' The steamer Ihumata is at present loading a cargo of timber at Kopu for Melbourne, and is expected to sail early next week. On completion of discharge at the Victorian port the will proceed to Newcastle for the'purpose of towing the hulk Eure to Auckland, for the Northern Steamship Company. The steamer Joan Craig left Newcastle on Wednesday for Auckland, with a • full cargo of coal. She is due here about Tuesday, and after discharging will probably go to Kaipura and Hokianga to load timber for an Australian port. The barque Louisa Craig is now 21 days out on the passage from Adelaide to - Auckland with a cargo of gypsum and bark. The barque Marjorie Craig arrived at Adelaide from Hokianga last Tuesday. After discharge of her timber cargo she will probably ' load a cargo of salt and bark at Adelaide for Auckland. The barque Joseph Craig is at present loading at Melbourne for Auckland. MYRA FELL'S CHARTER. The steamer Myra Fell, which has been carrying coal from Newcastle to Auckland for the past few months under charter to the Union Company, will make one more trip to this port before her charter expires. The vessel is <'ue here next week from Newcastle, and on completion of discharge of her coal cargo she wSll return to load a cargo of wheat at Sydney or one of the Southern Australian ports for the United Kingdom or Continent. This well-known vessel was built about five .years ago for the Commonwealth ' Line of steamers, and was en-gaged-for some years running in the Australian coastal service, chiefly between Port Pirie, Sydney, and Newcastle, after which the was taken up on time-charters for the same business by the diflerenb inter-State steamship companies. , RETURN OF THE SOUTHERN CROSS. The Melanesian Mission steamer Southern Cross arrived at Auckland yesterday morning from her periodical visit to Norfolk Island and the various mission stations, after an absence of three months. The vessel berthed at. the Queen-street - Wharf, where her arrival • was greeted by a large number of friends. The Southern. Cross .left Auckland on September 6, reaching Norfolk Island four days later, leaving again on September 11 for Vila, New Hebrides, where she coaled. Vila was left on September 17, and the steamer then proceeded through the New Hebrides, Banks, Torres, Santa Cruz, acd Solomon Groups, making numerous calls. She reached Tulagi, the official, centre of the Solomon?, on October 18, and remained in the group till' November 14, afterwards making a second series of calls at ail the mission stations. Vila was reached again, on November 26, and Norfolk Island on December 3. The Southern Cross left Norfolk Island ait '5.30 E.m. on December 6, meeting with exceptionally eavy head seas. It was found necessary to put into Russell on Tuesday last owing to a shortage of coal, a supply of which was obtained from the whaling company there, and tho voyage was resumed at noon on Wednesday. The vessel will go to an anchorage off Judge's Bay until April I next, when she leaves again for Norfolk Island i and the mission stations.
