POLICE COURT MEWS.
Thefji cases of insobriety camo before Mr. | E. C. Cutten, S.M., at the Police Court yesterday. One first offender was fined ss. James McMastcr Davidson had to pay, 10s for his second offence, whilst John Turner, ' and old man _of 71, was remanded for a week for medical treatment. For a breach of his prohibition order John White was fined £1. Two seamen, John Dillon _ and John Finnic, from the Anglo-Mexican, -were charged with continued disobedience of lawful orders and with desertion. Mr. Hall Skelton appeared for the accused. It was stated by the captain that accused had signed on as firemen, but had failed to turn up until a day late. Coming across the Tasman Sea the accused, it was alleged, shammed illness, and by their refusal.to work had upset the whole ship. For the defence it was stated that accused were really ill, and that the conditions on board were bad. After lengthy evidence from the' various officials of the ship, JSis Worship convicted the accused, ordering them to pay £3 each and costs. • . ' . .
