THE HAT-PIN DANGER.
CITY COUNCIL TO TAKE ACTION.
The hat-pin danger was brought under the notice of the Auckland City Council last evening. In a letter the Tramways Union of Workers stated that on Saturday, December 7, a conductor had an eye seriously injured by a pin protruding from a lady's hat, and in consequence was at present unable to follow his usual occupation. The union urged that a by-law, making it an offence for a lady to wear protruding hat-pins in a tram car, should be framed. The Mayor (Mr. 0. J. Parr) remarked that the Council had done nothing previously as it had been of the opinion that no move should be made until something definite Nvas brought before it. Personally, lie had every respect for the fair sex, but ho considered women were going too far when they wore hat-pins sticking out a yard from their hats. Tt was resolved that the By-laws Committee be instructed to frame a regulation to deal with the matter.
Mr. R. T. Michacls said hp was very glad to see that the Council was now taking action, even though they had not been sympathetic when he first brought the matter forward.
The Mayor: That's all right-, we quite agree, that you should have all the laurels.
