AQUATICS.

NOTES AND COMMENTS.

The 16ft open-boat Atangaiti and tho keel- | yacht Little Jim were launched at Queen's Parade on Friday evening. The Little Jim subsequently went away for her Cist weekend cruise, returning on Sunday afternoon. The keel-yachts Ilex and Rare're are nearly ready for sea, and it is expected that tho latter will be launched on Saturday. She will moor in St. George's Bay. The open-boat Fidget, lately owned by Mr. W. S. Home, of Dcvonport, has boon sold to Messrs. Simmers and Allan, of Point Chevalier.

Work has been started on the keel-vacht Thclma recently purchased by Mr. J. L. R. Bloomfield. Tho mast has been scraped, and a lot of the old rigging has been removed.

On Saturday last the 24ft mullet-boat Glady grounded on a bank, and was in a rather nasty position, at Ponsonby. She was subsequently towed off, however, by the new launch Lizard.

The yacht Vvaione is being put in commission rapidly at King Edward Parade. Her running rigging is now all rove, and she is nearly ready for sea. The ketch Mona is also ready at the same place. Tho rough weather on Saturday prevented several vessels being launched. The Mavourneen and Rehutai both remained on the* wood.

The keel-yacht Iris has been launched at Judge's Bay. She is in excellent order this season, having received a thorough overhaul.

Mr. C. Windsor's new 26ft mullet-boat Euphemia has had her mast stepped and her rigging set up and rove. Her sails will be bent during the week, and it is expected that she will bo out on Saturday next.

The launch Phyllis, which was recently sold to an Invercargill resident, was brought alongside the municipal skids on Saturday for cleaning purposes.

PANMURE BOATING CLUB. Tho Panmure Boating Club opened tb-9 season on Saturday afternoon with a handicap . race. The following boats competed, handicaps being stated in parentheses:— Horner's Rona (scratch), C. Kay's Sweet. Nell (scratch), W. McMaultv's Shamrock (10m.). V. Andrews's Sea Eli? (18m.), G. Loombe's Ella (40m.); A. Pilkington's Ledna (40m), T. Kilgour's Sea Pink (40m.). The first three boats to finish were Sweet Neil, Shamrock, and Rona in that order. Tho finish for second place was rather exciting, there being only 30s. between tho two boats. On time allowance, Shamrock won, Sweet Nell being second, and Rona third.
