Mr. Stuart Skddon (Wellington), who is studying architecture in London after a course in Paris, will probably leave for home at the end of the year. Mrs. W. J. Ralph (Auckland) and her daughter will pay a visit to the Continent before the latter enters on her course 'if singing. After six months' stay in London, .Miss Alda Ralph will 'proceed to Milan. Captain Lionel Halsey has Assumed command of the Dreadnought cruiser New Zealand, which enters on 'her trials this week. He has commanded tho armoured cruiser Donegal lor the past fifteen: months. The Earl of Hanfurly and Lord Roberts have both signed the ".Irish Peers' pledge that they will not accept a seat in cither House of the Irish Legislature in the event of the passing of a, Homo Rule Rill without previous reference to the country. The callers at the High Commissioner's office this week included :-—Mr. S. White Hardio (Auckland), Langloy Shaw (Waikato), Gerald Allhusen (Ba*v of Islands), Mrs. J. M. Mac Donald, and M. M. MaoDonald (Auckland), W. Kenneth Eadv (Auckland).
The staff of the High Commissioner's office celebrated Dominion Day by dininotogether at the Victoria restaurant. Vic-toria-street, last night. Mr. C. Wray I Palliser, the acting-High Commissioner, presided over a. company of 37, iiicliuliri" all the heads of departments. Major W. R. N. Madouks, R.A., who was for five years staff-officer to Colonel Pole-Penton when the latter was commandant in New Zealand, leaves London to-day with General Sir lan Hamilton In-spector-General of the Oversea Forces who is undertaking the longest tour of inS|>ection ever made by a British officer Sir lan Hamilton, who goes first to tho Far East by way of Siberia, is Accompanied by Brigadier-General Ellison of the general staff, and Major Madocks who is his military secretary. The. delegation is not expected to return to England for almost a year.
