MILITARY TRAINING.

LORD ROBERTS AND THE GERMAN MENACE. APPROVAL BY UNIONISTS. CABINET REFUSES ROYAL COMMISSION. "By Telegraph.—Preas Association.—Copyright. London, October 31. I f a letter signed by 105 Unionist members of the House of Commons and addressed to Lord Roberts, the latter is thanked for his stirring and convincing speech at the Manchester demonstration in connection with *ihe National Service League,' in which he urged the necessity for Great Britain being' prepared to repel a German attack. The letter, which does not mention the recent criticisms of the speech, expresses a hope that Lord Roberts's patriotic campaign in favour of universal military training will be crowned by a practical result at an early date. In reply to a question in the House of Commons yesterday from Captain Faber (Unionist member for Hampshire West), the Prime Minister (Mr. Asquith) said that no useful purpose would be served by the appointment of a royal commission to report on the question of universal military training.
