POLICE COURT NEWS.
The sitting of the Police Court yesterday was presided over by Mr. F. V. Frazcr, S.M. . A charge of flowing a youth of 16 to enter his billiard saloon, at Ponucmby, was preferred against, Albert L. Ballard. Tho defendant, who was ~ stated by. Sergeant, O'GnuJy to have been in the habit of allowing young lads on tho. premise?, was fined £3,' with costs. For permitting three cows to wander in Beach lload, in the Ilemuera Road Board district, J. Blackwell was fined Is, with 28s costs. For insobriety, f<«r first ffendetß were each fined ss, ono of the number having to pay an additional 2s 6d for cab hire. Sarah Dennis, a fifth offender, who pleaded tearfully for another chance, was prohibited and sentenced to seven days' imprisonment.' On a charge of drunkenness, coupled with a breach of his prohibition order, William Jamos MoMamis was fined £2, with an alternative of seven clays' imprisonment. Frank Messenger, described as a hard-working young man, whose failing was drink, was*charged with drunkenness, a breach of his prohibition order, end with using obscene language in Queenstreet. Ho was committed to Eoto Hoa Island for a term of 12 months. Two Norwegians, Gustav Finn and Tonnes Tonnesoii, who, despite a constable's warning, persisted in continuing a fistic combat in Victoria-street, were each fined 1.0?, or in default three days in gaol.
