These are the only nominations received, and the i above'gentlemen are accordingly elected. ; r ; The" ,Te Aroha Tennis Club officially opened the season on Wednesday afternoon. There wan a large number of players on the lawn. The membership of the club is .very large, and it will be necessary to have three or four extra courts to accommodate all players. The bowling season was officially opened on Wednesday in the presence of a. large number of bowlers, including many visitors. In spite of the damp weather some really good games toot; place. - : -.---r A'meeting on Tuesday resolved that ..a men's club should bo formed in connection with the Methodist Church. The name is to bo the Te Aroha Men's Club. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Rev. G. B. Hinton; vice-presidents, Messrs. W. Brodie, C. Chirn, J) D. Morrison, and R.C. Willis; secretary, Mr. Coulter; treasurer, Mi*. M. Morrison; committee, Messrs. C. Rayner, J. French, M. Morrison, Coulter, and G. Hirst. It was decided to invite the gymnastic club to join the men's club. At the monthly, meeting of the Borough Council on Wednesday night, a letter was received from the Morrinsville Town Board making inquiries regarding a supply of metal fjfoin the CJouncil. It was agreed to reply that the Council was prepared to supply metal at 60s 3d per yard f.o.b. The treasurer reported that the bank overdraft stood at £3184 13s lid. The accounts passed for payment amounted to £274 15s.

Tho Taumarunui Tennis Club's opening yesterday was spoilt. by rain. The new pavilion and new court were open for the hrst .time. ■'•".-' Miss Stella Meredith, daughter .of Mr. T. J. Meredith, one of the earliest residents of Taumarunui, was married on Tuesday to Mr. Flanagan, of the local railway staff. On the same day Miss Lucy Bell, daughter of Mir. Alex. Bell, who has the distinction of being the first European settler in this part of the country, was married to Mr. Bennett,, also one of the railway staff. The Ohura settlers have the satisfaction of finding provision made in the Estimates for . a number of; small bridges, of which they were badly in need. A grant has ; also been made for the Kurarau Road. Since the recent decision in regard to fishing boundaries, several local anglers have obtained Waimarino licenses, and begun fishing. Good catches are reported. . A great gathering is expected for the Celtic sports on Monday. Record entries | have been received, ■ and tho chopping events and fire brigade competitions are expected to be very interesting. •"'. On Monday evening a bazaar will be ; held on .behalf of the fire brigado, which has now become very efficient. HAMILTON. THE CROQUET ? CLUB. The annual meeting of the Hamilton Croquet Club was hold on the lawns on Tuesday,' there being a large attendance of members. v The following officers were elected::—President, Mr. H. H. Howden; vice-presidents, Drei. Douglas and Brewis, and Messrs. Bennett, Hyde, Scott, Watson, J. A. Young, M.P., and Greenslade; committee, Mesdames Brewis, Jolly, Bull, Kerr, and Stevens; secretary, Mrs. T. Jolly treasurer, Miss Newell. The opening da.y was fixed for' November 9, tho courts being in excellent condition for commencing the season's work. A meeting of the Carnival Committee of the Hamilton Band was held on Tuesday night, when various matters in connection, with, the gala to :be held in. December were discussed. ■■ The canvassers

who are soliciting donations from the townspeople are meeting gratifying success, £22 14s being already forthcoming in guarantees, £7 16s 6d in cash,- and. £11'8s in trophies. ■ ■•*..: At the executive meeting of tho Waikato A..and P. Association a letter was received from the secretary of the Now Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders' Association stating that the association offered a sterling, silver trophy, valued at 17gns., for competition at the show, subject to the associatfeii's acceptance of the following conditions:—For best threo Jerseys in milk, bred and shown by one exhibitor, who is exhibiting them in competition at the show; ..'to be won three times, hot necessarily consecutively; open only to animals registered in the New Zealand Jersey Herd Book; the show judge to be from the Jersey Association's official list. It is also a condition in allotting the prize that the prize schedule for the Jersey cows be of the same cash value as in the preceding year, exclusive of the trophy. A vote of thanks was passed to the donora for their generous offer. The judge tho Waikato Association has already appointed is on tho Breeders' Association list. On the suggestion of Mr. J. D. P. Morgan, of Pukeroro, it • was decided to * call a meeting after the show to consider the question of forming a Graziers' Association, composed of those interested in the fattening of stock. It was decided to receive stock from the Ruakura farm of instruction for competition at tho show. The use of the ground was granted rent free to the 4th Waikato Mounted Rifles for their, gymkhana on November 23. Thirtyseven new members were elected.

WHANGABEI. A SUCCESSFUL CONCERT. , An extremely successful conceit was given in the ! Theatre Royal on Tuesday night by the members of the Auckland Commercial Travellers' Association in aid of funds for the Whangarei Hospital. The Financial result of the venture was most gratifying, and it is estimated that with the Government subsidy added some £200 will be secured. At the conclusion of the concert, the chairman of the MarsdenKaipara Hospital Board, tendered on behalf of the Board and residents in the district sincere thanks to the performers. - Mr. A. N. Sneddon, • president ; of the Auckland Commercial Travellers' Association replied, and pointed out the fact that the concert to assist the hospital funds which was now regarded as an annual affair was unique as far as the rest of the Dominion was concerned. CAMBRIDGE. if E\V SCHOOL .-opened.-'. The newly-erected school at Monavale was formally opened this week by Mr. J. S' Fisher, chairman of the Pukerimu School Committee. Mr. Fisher congratulated the settlers on the advancement that has taken place in the Monavale district, in which there is now a post office, school, and telephone facilities. After January 1, a rural mail delivery will be inaugurated. BITOOKBY. THE TENNIS. CLUB. 'The tennis season * was - opened hero on Saturday tinder favourable conditions. There was a large gathering of local players and many visitors, in spite of the ram in the early part of tho day. Mr. "J. Several farmers also supply cream, to the Waikato Company. That the farmers here are becoming alive to the necessity of employing up-to-date methods is evidenced by the fact that Mr. D.
