Mining Company , this 'toorning,;-'and added .to the staff employed 'the mine. ■' Two of them ; are experienced miners, who/ were working on the field prior to the strike'. '".. Upwards of.Bo nien, exclusive of the permanent staff, ar« now underground, of whom 16 have , been engaged during the present week. Good progress is being made in drawing off ore broken in the shrinkage blocks, and further batches of men are now employed breaking ore in the stones. ' /Tuesday's tally shows that 415 short tons of ore were raised frOm the mine, and 45 tons drawn from the storage -.; hoppers for the day. The quantity of ore railed from Waihi .to Waikinowas 405 ton 3, and-the quartz now being treated from the Victoria mill averages over 400 tons daily.' In addition to the local miners who have resumed work, quite a number of cLhers have intimated . their intention' of goinp back to their- jobs, and the majority ore expected to make ; a start in the course of a few days. The steady increase of workers entering the employ of the Waihi company is naturally impressing . those of the miners, who desire to remain in Waihi, for they realise that- unless they return .to work shortly they will • jeopardise their prospect of employment. ' ; Last evening . there was a demonstration of a somewhat pronounced character against one of the workers, the strikers alleging that the wife of the worker had insulted the wife of one of the strikers sent to gaol. Inquiries made by the police, proved the: allegation to be groundless, the woman said to have been insulted stating that she had not been subjected to annoyance.
