FIRE OBTAINS A NEW HOLD.
MINE TO BE FLOODED.
RECOVERY OF THE BODIES DEFERRED. By Telegraph.— Tress Association.—Copyright Hobart, October 22. Dexse volumes of .smoke are still issuing from the North Mount Lyell mine. The fire has obtained a fresh hold at the 700 ft level and is spreading. A party wearing helmets made another attempt- to reach the bodies, but were. driven back. No more attempts will bo made until the situation improves. It is understood that the management has decided to flood the mine to above the 700 ft level. This will take three weeks. The recovery of the bodies of the victims of the late disaster has been postponed indefinitely. The Victorian Government has given £1000 to the relief fund.
