POLICE COURT NEWS.
The sitting of the Police Court' yesterday, was presided over by Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M. A chargo of having obstructed the footpath at ° Customs-street was preferred against a native- named Andrew Bee. The defendant was represented by Mr. Sinclair, who stated that the man's name was not Bee, but Coffey. At the time when the offence was alleged to have been committed, the defendant was on board a launch. Unfortunately, the launch-owner could not simtain the alibi, as he was out of town. To save tho defendant further expense, lie would enter a plea of. guilty. A fine of ss, with 7s costs, was imposed. For insobriety, three first offenders -were each fined ss, or in default 24 hours in gaol. Emily Ford, Margaret Jano Eliza Davidson, and Joseph Meehan, who made their second appearance, • had each to pay a fine of 10s, with an alternative of 48, hours. . On a clwrgo of failing to comply with an order for the maintenance of his mother, John Joseph GalJaher was sentenced to fourteen days' hard labour. An order for tlio payment of £l a week towards the support of his wife was made against William Wait. Mabel Kitney was ordered to pay 2s per week towards 'the support of her child in a. receiving home.
