MOUNT LYELL DISASTER
LEVELS FILLED WITH GAS. DELAY IN RAISING BODIES. A ROYAL COMMISSION. , By Telegraph.— Association.— Eobart, October 21. It is officially stated that since the extinction of the fire at the 700 ft level of the North Mount' Lyell mine, the 8,50 ft and 1000 ft levels have become so filled with gas that it is impossible to work there .without the greatest rifik. The raising of 'the bodies of the victims of the late disaster has therefore been delayed until fans are placed in the engine winze and main shaft to clear the workings of foul air and gas. They are now being put in jilace. The firemen and the miners are unanimpusly of opinion that the level*) are unfit to be entered now, even with helmets. A Royal Commission has been appointed to inquire immediately into the cause of the fire.
