THE CAPTURE OF TUZT
A TURKISH ACCOUNT. FORMER REPORT DENIED. (Received October 21, 10.40 p.m.) Constantinople, October 21. > When the capture of Tuzi (near the Montenegrin border) by the Montenegrins was reported last ' . week, it was stated that the six bat- ! talions of troops were taken pri- • scners and that the spoils included '< eight machine guns. i The Turkish War Office denies the accuracy of this report. It is stated that Tuzi is only an ; unimportant village, without fortifications. ' Three hundred troops, it is stated, 1 : were merely sent to watch the . Montenegrin movements, and they : retired when the Malissori tribesmen i attacked them in the rear. A small i rearguard fc and eight worthless l bronze guns were captured. I' The Montenegrin report of the capture of Tuzi stated tha.t the port surrenderee after two hours' bombardment. The Montenegrins, it was -stated, ,had preparec ', to make an assault on the fort under oovei
of their artillery •when a Turkish officer bearing a white flag appeared, and consented to the unconditional surrender of the garrison. The garrison, it was furthei stated, consisted of six battalions of the Nisam, or regular troops, totalling 10,000. men, all of -whom were cent to Podgontza. The spoils, it is added included five guns, which were badly damaged by : the Monte-, negrin fire, eight machine guns, 7000 Mausers, 800 tents, and • a large number of horses. '
